Garage Door Stuck and Won't Open

So your garage door is stuck? Many things can occur to cause this to happen. Take a moment and review this checklist to diagnose the situation.

1. Sometimes a garage door cable has come loose. This can be cause by a weak and aging spring tension system. If one of the cables is loose on one side of the door, you will need a professional to diagnose the situation, as it may be in a very dangerous state. Do not touch the loose cable or attempt to move the door.

2. If the door is extremely heavy the motor will not want to lift it. Many wooden garage doors become waterlogged after a period of time and need to be replaced.

3. Is the motor plugged in? If the motor has become disconnected or a circuit breaker has tripped this will prevent the door from opening.

4. Does the remote need a new battery? To test your motor with the door down, pull the manual release to release the door, then press the motor button.

5. If you live in San Diego, Ca or the surrounding area, give us a call at 619-715-0159 for a free over the phone troubleshooting and diagnostic. Lets get that door working again!

Programming a new garage door remote

Programming a new remote for your garage door can be easy and simple. We suggest using Chamberlain's Universal Clicker, as it works with all major brands.

First you need the remote you purchased for your garage door system. Take the universal remote and check to make sure that it has a good battery. Sometimes the battery becomes corroded after it sits in a warehouse for a very long time.

Next, press the program button on the back of your garage door motor.

If your motor is a Liftmaster brand, it will have either a white, black, yellow, red, orange, green, or purple button. The Genie brand has has a yellow or black button.

Once the motor has entered programming mode, you will then press and hold down the 1st remote button firmly for 5 seconds. Then, press the 2nd button 1-5 times if it is a Liftmaster. If your motor is a Genie, press the button 6-10 times.

When the lights flash on the motor, programming is complete! Your garage door remote is now ready for operation.

Check to make sure there are no obstructions or anyone standing in the path of the door. Press the remote button and the door will begin to move. If you press the button before the door is closes completely, it will reverse. Pressing the button once more will stop all motion.

Many older motors are not capable of receiving a remote signal. We recommend replacing these as they are usually unsafe for operation, because they lack the necessary door safety reversal systems that the newer garage door motors have.
